Each year, the Fidelio Trio Winter Chamber Music Festival offers professional development opportunities for emerging composers and young artists.

Snapshots – Fidelio Winter Chamber Music Festival 2023

Snapshots is a professional development opportunity presented by Fidelio Trio in collaboration with the Contemporary Music Centre and GlasDrum, and in partnership with Fidelio Trio Winter Chamber Music Festival 2023.

An exciting opportunity to write a two minute Snapshot for either solo violin, solo cello, or solo piano, inspired by the oasis that is the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin. VR Garden Walks click HERE.

This opportunity is suitable for emerging/early career music creators/composers and is open to any emerging/early career music creator/composer born in or based on the island of Ireland.

These pieces will receive one-to-one expert feedback and be workshopped with the music creators/composer and Fidelio Trio members: Darragh Morgan Violin, Tim Gill Cello, Mary Dullea, Piano on the afternoon of the 25th November 2023, in Belvedere House, DCU Glasnevin campus, Dublin 9.

As an integral part of the day’s events, this workshop is a natural extension of the lunchtime concert at the National Botanic Gardens which features the world premiere performances of four works for violin and electronics taking their inspiration from the flora of the National Botanic Gardens, by Grainne Mulvey, Siobhán Cleary, Seán Ó Dálaigh and Fergal Dowling. Participants are encouraged to attend this concert in advance of the workshop.  

Furthermore, post the Snapshots workshop, the participants will attend a 6pm roundtable discussion focusing on previous Fidelio Trio Winter Chamber Music Festival commissions by composers John Buckley, Rhona Clarke, Ann Cleare and Kevin Volans.

To apply for this unique opportunity:

  • Please submit an expression of interest, relating to the theme, including a recent CV and one past work in pdf format to fideliotriowinterfestival@gmail.com with Snapshots in the email subject line by Friday 3rd of November 2023 at 5pm

  • 9 successful composers will be selected to participate in the workshop at the Winter Chamber Music Festival 2023. They will be notified shortly after the initial submission date and they will be allocated an instrument to write for

  • The 9 participant composers will be asked to submit short ca’ 2 minute *Snapshot for their allocated solo instrument by Tuesday 21st November 2023. No changes will be possible to your submitted Snapshot after this date

  • The in-person workshops with the 9 participant composers and members of the Fidelio Trio will take place on Saturday 25th November 2023 3-5pm at Belvedere House, St. Patrick's College, Dublin City University, followed by a roundtable discussion at 6pm. 

*Pieces with scordatura are not being accepted for this opportunity, prepared piano is not possible (due to performances schedule) and the workshop cannot facilitate pieces with electronics.
