Fidelio Trio

2024 Festival draws to a close with another premiere in the Irish first performance of Ailís Ní Ríain Born unfixed to bend and break and leave behind, commissioned by Fidelio Trio and premiered in January at Dark Music Days, Iceland. We mark the 100th anniversary of Fauré’s death with his unique late piano trio and conclude with the timeless trio that is Schubert’s magnificent second Piano Trio in E flat major. Pre-concert talk will take place with Ailísh Ní Ríain at 2.30pm (via Zoom).

'They Danced while the musicians played'

Fidelio Trio, Cillian Vallely (Uilleann Pipes)

The Fidelio Trio will be joined by Cillian Vallely of Lúnasa on the uilleann pipes to perform new music inspired by the evocative musical portraits of celebrated Irish artist John B Vallely. Featuring new works by celebrated Irish composers including Niall Vallely, Shaun Davey, Irene Buckley, Neil Martin, and David Fennessy, the programme also includes Joan Trimble’s Phantasy Trio, Henry Cowell’s The Banshee, and the traditional Irish air Port na bPúcaí on pipes. Highlights include two works by the late Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, composed specifically for the Fidelio Trio, Crispy! and Fidelio Unsung, creating a vivid soundscape that blends contemporary chamber music with the haunting beauty of Irish traditional sounds.
